Jharkhand cancels JSSC-CGL and TDPL recruitment exams amid probe

The Jharkhand government, led by Chief Minister Hemant Soren, has cancelled the Jharkhand Staff Selection Commission Combined Graduate Level (JSSC-CGL) examination and all recruitment tests conducted by the private agency TSR Data Processing Private Limited (TDPL). This decision follows a 24-day student protest in Ranchi regarding alleged irregularities and paper leaks in the recruitment process.

In response to the findings of ongoing investigations by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) and the Crime Investigation Department (CID), which revealed an interconnected network of collusion, the government has ordered a comprehensive inquiry into all recruitment examinations conducted by the JPSC and JSSC from 2014 to the present. To address systemic issues, an exam reforms committee led by senior IAS officer Amitabh Kaushal has been established to recommend measures for a more transparent and secure examination system.

While student leader Devendra Nath Mahto ended his 16-day hunger strike following the announcement, many protesters maintain that their primary demand for a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe remains unfulfilled. Conversely, a group of previously successful candidates has launched protests, arguing that the mass cancellation is unjust to those who passed the exams fairly and has resulted in the loss of approximately 2,250 jobs.
