Jharkhand Leaders Seek More Central Funding Amid Student Exam Protest

Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren wrote to Prime Minister Narendra Modi urging an increase in central assistance for scholarship schemes that support Scheduled Tribe, Scheduled Caste, Backward Class and minority students. Soren highlighted that the state requested billions of rupees for pre‑ and post‑matric scholarships but received only a fraction, leaving many eligible students without timely aid and pointing out disparities in scholarship amounts.

Governor Santosh Kumar Gangwar said the government is concerned about the fate of students and emphasized that education reforms are underway. He called for a swift resolution of ongoing student protests over alleged irregularities in the Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC) and Jharkhand Staff Selection Commission (JSSC) examinations, drawing a comparison to how a similar protest was settled in Delhi. The governor reiterated his focus on improving higher education, research, and innovation in the state.
