Jharkhand: Minister surrenders in legal case as BJP threatens protests
In Jharkhand, Health Minister and Congress MLA Irfan Ansari surrendered to an MP-MLA court in Ranchi regarding a case involving allegedly offensive remarks made about yoga teacher Rafia Naz. The case stems from an incident in August 2020, where Naz filed a complaint alleging that Ansari made derogatory comments about her attire on a private news channel. The court granted Ansari bail based on two sureties of 10,000 rupees each following his appearance.
Separately, BJP leader and Leader of Opposition Babulal Marandi has accused the Hemant Soren government of suppressing democratic rights. Marandi alleged that JMM workers assaulted students during a planned protest on August 21 across several districts, including Ranchi and Giridih. Marandi has warned that the BJP will protest against local magistrates starting August 25 if no FIRs are filed against the alleged attackers.
