Jharkhand Mother‑Newborn Death Triggers Large BJP Protest in Jamtara
On July 17, a woman identified as Reena Devi and her newborn died at Jamtara district hospital in Jharkhand amid allegations of medical negligence. The incident sparked outrage among local residents, who vandalised parts of the hospital and blocked nearby roads.
BJP workers, led by opposition leader Babulal Marandi, organized a rally that moved from the hospital to the district collectorate. Marandi and other party members accused the state government of failing to provide adequate healthcare, neglecting recruitment and employment issues, and turning a blind eye to corruption and illegal mining in the region. An FIR was lodged against eight individuals, including several BJP district officials, following a complaint by the hospital administration.
