Jharkhand police file FIRs against hundreds following recruitment protests

Police in Jharkhand have registered multiple First Information Reports (FIRs) against hundreds of individuals following violent clashes during protests organized by job aspirants. The demonstrations, led by the JPSC-JSSC Reform Forum, were held to protest alleged irregularities in recruitment examinations and a recent High Court decision.

In Giridih and Hazaribag, authorities filed FIRs against 39 named individuals and over 900 unidentified people after demonstrators attempted to burn effigies of Chief Minister Hemant Soren. In Hazaribag, the clashes resulted in injuries to eight police personnel, including four sub-inspectors. In Ranchi, three separate FIRs were filed at the Kotwali police station against 14 named and more than 200 unidentified persons after protesters allegedly violated designated routes.

While police stated they used mild force to manage the unrest, the Leader of Opposition, Babulal Marandi, accused the state government of deploying Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) members to assault protesters with sticks and batons. Authorities are currently reviewing CCTV footage and video recordings to identify those involved in the violence.
