Jharkhand Public Service Commission faces crisis over exam irregularities

The Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC) is facing significant scrutiny following allegations of irregularities in the 14th combined civil services preliminary exam. The controversy has led to widespread protests and political unrest in the state.

Former JPSC chairman L Khiangte, a retired IAS officer, resigned from his position and was subsequently arrested by state police. Three other commission members—Ajita Bhattacharya, Anima Hansda, and Jamal Ahmed—also resigned after being summoned for questioning by authorities.

The situation has highlighted systemic concerns regarding the appointment and conduct of members within state public service commissions. Recent incidents involving commission members have underscored the need for structural reforms to ensure impartiality and prevent regional favoritism in the selection process.
