Jharsuguda Airport to receive Rs 2,100 crore for international upgrade

Veer Surendra Sai Airport in Jharsuguda is slated for a major infrastructure upgrade following the central government's approval of Rs 2,100 crore. The project aims to develop the facility to international standards.

Key components of the expansion include runway enlargement, the construction of a new terminal, and improved passenger facilities designed to accommodate larger aircraft. To facilitate these developments, the acquisition of approximately 350 acres of land is currently underway.

In addition to physical infrastructure, authorities are working to enhance air connectivity. Discussions held by the Airport Advisory Committee include efforts to introduce direct flights to cities such as Chennai, Jaipur, and Visakhapatnam to support tourism, business, and employment in western Odisha.
