Jhon Arias faces hostility from Fluminense fans at Maracanã

Colombian winger Jhon Arias faced a hostile reception from Fluminense supporters during his first return to the Maracanã stadium since leaving the club. Now playing for Palmeiras, Arias was targeted by fans who displayed a large banner with messages such as ‘Sem palavra’ (No words) and ‘você pagou com traição’ (you paid with betrayal).

Arias, a former Fluminense idol who helped the team win the 2023 Libertadores, had previously stated he would not play for another Brazilian club upon his departure. However, he joined Palmeiras following a 25 million euro offer that Fluminense was unable to match. During the match, Arias also faced verbal abuse from the stands while greeting his former teammates.
