Jhonsson Pulpo captured in Bolivia and extradited to Peru

Jhonsson Smith Cruz Torres, known as ‘Jhonsson Pulpo’, the leader of the Peruvian criminal organization ‘Los Pulpos’, has been captured in La Paz, Bolivia. The arrest was the result of a coordinated international intelligence operation involving the Peruvian National Police, the Bolivian Police, the FBI, and the DEA.

Cruz Torres, who is part of the third generation of a criminal clan based in Trujillo, faces a life sentence for a 2020 robbery that resulted in the death of a merchant. To evade capture, he reportedly used plastic surgery to alter his appearance and utilized false identities. Authorities noted that his criminal activities, including kidnapping, extortion, and homicide, have expanded across borders into Chile, Bolivia, and Argentina.

Following his arrest, Cruz Torres was expelled from Bolivia and handed over to Peruvian authorities at the Desaguadero border crossing. He was subsequently transported to Lima under heavy security. Gabriel Alexander Mendocilla Gómez, 23, was also detained during the operation. Peruvian officials believe his capture will provide critical intelligence to dismantle the broader criminal network.
