Jhonny Condori Villavicencio’s body still trapped in Sucre informal mine

Forty‑eight days after a mining accident on 13 June, the body of Jhonny Condori Villavicencio remains inside a shaft at an informal mine in the Santa Rosa annex of Chilcayoc district, Sucre, Bolivia. The 48‑year‑old drill‑operator died while working in a high‑risk zone that lacked basic safety measures. His brother escaped the collapse, but Condori’s body could not be recovered.

His family has repeatedly demanded that authorities intervene to retrieve the body and investigate the lack of supervision and safety standards at the informal operation. Residents of the area also warn that the absence of inspections increases the danger for workers in similar mines. The relatives are pressing for a prompt action to recover the remains and clarify the circumstances of the accident.
