Jhonny Fernández submits evidence in Santa Cruz corruption probe

Former Santa Cruz de la Sierra mayor Jhonny Fernández appeared before the Special Directorate for the Fight Against Corruption (DELCC) to comply with a fiscal summons. He is under investigation for alleged computer manipulation and breach of duties during his administration. While Fernández opted to abstain from giving a formal testimony during this stage, he submitted documentary evidence, including receipts and payment records, to support his defense.

Fernández denied the accusations, stating that the municipal administration relies on specialized technical areas and that he does not personally manage computer systems. He also clarified that a property mentioned in the investigation was sold in 2012 and does not belong to him.

The investigation follows the preventive detention of Mario Centellas, the former Municipal Secretary of Finance, who has been ordered to remain in Palmasola prison for 90 days. Centellas and Fernández have been accused of misappropriating over 190 million Bolivianos in credits and debts. Additionally, allegations have been raised regarding tax reductions and system manipulation that may have caused the city to lose more than 570 million Bolivianos in revenue.
