Jhou Santos revives 'Jornada Bufa' at I Festival de Circo da Amazônia in Belém

Amapá‑born artist, director and cultural producer Jhou Santos re‑staged his solo performance “Jornada Bufa [Lixo, Pão e Circo]” after a three‑year hiatus during the I Festival de Circo da Amazônia in Belém, Pará, on 2 July 2026. The show blends bufonaria, physical theatre and circus language to portray Bufa, a street‑kid garbage collector, exploring themes of marginality, survival and social critique.

The production was financed by the Government of Amapá through the Circuito das Artes grant of the State Secretariat of Culture, and the festival was organized by the Associação Cultural Circo Nós Tantos as part of the Tacacá Cultural project, with support from Funarte and the Ministry of Culture. In addition to the performance, Santos conducted a twelve‑hour scenic‑direction workshop at the Casa das Artes for local artists. He said, “É muito importante romper as barreiras geográficas e levar um trabalho criado no Amapá para outros territórios da Amazônia. Reestrear Jornada Bufa em Belém representa um momento muito significativo da minha trajetória artística.”
