Jiří Štěpnička funeral attended by estranged son
Dozens of people, including colleagues from the National Theatre, gathered to bid farewell to legendary actor Jiří Štěpnička. The funeral service was marked by a notable appearance by his son, Jakub Štěpnička, who had been estranged from his father for years.
Jiří Štěpnička had previously spoken openly about the deep rift in their relationship, stating in interviews that they “hate each other.” Despite the long-standing conflict and the actor's prior insistence that reconciliation was impossible, Jakub attended the pietistic ceremony and sat with his sister, Judita, and her family. Following the service, the family and close friends traveled to the nearby Žofín cemetery.
During the memorial, various figures from the theatrical community paid tribute. Jan Burian, Director of the National Theatre, honored the actor's mastery on stage, while colleagues such as Vladislav Beneš and Taťána Medvecká shared personal memories of their long professional and personal connections with the deceased.
