Jiang Xunbo sentenced to prison for bribery in China

Jiang Xunbo, a former high-ranking official in Quzhou, Zhejiang province, has been sentenced to seven and a half years in prison and fined 500,000 yuan for bribery.

An investigation launched in April 2021 revealed that Jiang had accepted millions of yuan in bribes from various business executives and subordinates between 1998 and 2018. Authorities discovered unusual methods used to conceal illicit assets; during a raid on his villa, officers found gold bars and jewelry wrapped in plastic and hidden inside frozen meat, including chicken, duck, and fish, within his freezer. Additionally, stacks of debit cards and gift cards were discovered buried under bamboo groves in his garden.

Jiang admitted to his crimes, stating in a released video, “I accept the legal consequences and am deeply remorseful for my sins,” while acknowledging he used his power as a tool for financial gain. The charges also noted that his wife assisted in receiving bribes and using his influence to bypass environmental penalties for a relative's business.
