Jiaying Chen ordered to pay $280,000 for Nevada marriage and fraud scheme

Jiaying Chen, a 33-year-old woman in Nevada, has been ordered to pay more than $280,000 in restitution after pleading guilty to bigamy and financial fraud. Prosecutors described Chen as a serial marriage scammer who targeted men to fund a gambling addiction.

Court records from Clark County indicate that Chen sought 14 marriage licenses between 2019 and 2024, resulting in seven documented marriages. Investigators noted that she entered into five marriages within the last year alone. Nine men filed restitution claims ranging from approximately $8,100 to $81,000.

District Judge Crystal Eller imposed a suspended prison sentence of eight to 20 years, in addition to eight months of incarceration. Including time already served, Chen's total jail sentence is expected to be approximately one year.
