Jiboia plant care: analyzing the ice cube watering method

A popular gardening hack involving the use of ice cubes to water jiboia (Epipremnum aureum) plants is being analyzed for its effectiveness. The method aims to provide a slow, controlled release of moisture into the substrate, which can help prevent overwatering and soil compaction.

However, experts note several drawbacks to this technique. Because ice melts in a specific spot, the moisture may not distribute uniformly across the entire root system, potentially leaving parts of the plant dry. Additionally, as a tropical plant, the jiboia may not thrive when exposed to the extremely cold temperatures caused by ice.

For optimal care, it is recommended to water based on the actual moisture level of the soil rather than a set schedule. Checking if the top layer of the substrate is dry to the touch and ensuring the pot has proper drainage are considered more reliable methods for maintaining plant health.
