JICA targets over 100 billion yen annual ODA for Vietnam
The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) is aiming to increase its Official Development Assistance (ODA) commitments to Vietnam to over 100 billion yen per year. This initiative aligns with Vietnam's goal of becoming a high-income nation by 2045 through new growth models focused on science, technology, digital transformation, and institutional modernization.
JICA is currently implementing various programs, including 12 ODA loan projects. Notable recent agreements include a 50 billion yen loan for green growth and climate change adaptation, a 17.67 billion yen project for climate-resilient infrastructure in northern mountainous provinces, and a 21.59 billion yen project for disaster-resilient rural development.
Beyond loans, JICA is supporting Vietnam through technical cooperation, grant aid, and private sector investment financing. The cooperation also emphasizes economic security in strategic sectors such as energy, essential minerals, artificial intelligence, semiconductors, and space technology, strengthening the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between Japan and Vietnam.
