Jigawa community receives solar-powered water facility

Residents of the Gidan Na-Ari community in the Ringim Local Government Area of Jigawa State have gained access to a new 20,000-litre solar-powered water facility, addressing a water crisis that has persisted for over two decades.

The facility features a solar-powered pumping system, five water-dispensing points, and a manual hand pump. The project was implemented through the British American Tobacco Nigeria Foundation as part of its rural development initiatives, with participation from the Jigawa State Government.

Prior to this intervention, community members, particularly women and children, were required to travel several kilometres to neighboring communities to secure potable water for domestic use. The new system is expected to reduce travel time and provide more reliable access to clean water for the area.
