Jihlava implements parking reforms in Slunce residential area
The city of Jihlava is undergoing a phase of public space improvements in the Slunce residential district, specifically focusing on parking infrastructure near Polní 20. The project involves restructuring existing spaces to increase capacity; for example, thirteen current perpendicular and longitudinal spots will be replaced by twenty-three spots in a new configuration. The works include new asphalt for roads and the installation of concrete permeable paving for most parking spaces.
These changes are part of a broader effort to expand blue zones—parking areas reserved for residents who pay an annual fee. While the city administration argues that implementing these zones in residential areas prevents commuters from occupying local spaces, the move has faced local opposition. Residents previously organized a petition titled ‘Nechceme modré Slunce’ (We don't want blue Slunce) to protest the parking system.
