Jihlava launches architectural and film education programs for students
The Jihlava Architectural Manual (JAM), the Gustav Mahler House (DGM), and the Documentary Film Center (CDF) have launched two interconnected educational programs titled ‘Slohy na scénu!’ and ‘Jihlava, sloh, akce!’. Designed for students in grades 4 through 9, the initiative aims to teach architectural styles such as Gothic, Renaissance, Baroque, and Classicism through hands-on experience.
In the first phase, students explore historical periods and architectural characteristics using information cards, books, and artistic activities. This includes creating cardboard house models, architectural details, and period costumes. The second phase takes place at the Documentary Film Center, where students visit the historic center of Jihlava to film actual buildings and details. Using animation and green screen technology, students combine images, words, and sound to produce short original films about their chosen architectural styles.
