Jill Biden defends Joe Biden's legacy and 2024 exit
In an interview on The Jamie Kern Lima Show, Jill Biden addressed the circumstances surrounding Joe Biden’s decision to withdraw from the 2024 presidential race. She characterized her husband as a “hero” for his decision to end his re-election bid, stating that he “gave up everything” and expressing hope that history will recognize his sacrifice.
Jill Biden pushed back against speculation that she pressured the president to seek a second term. She asserted that Joe Biden originally intended to serve only a single term, but changed his stance following the 2022 midterm elections. She attributed the push for his re-election to Democratic Party figures and longtime staff advisers who encouraged him to continue after the party's performance in the midterms.
She also criticized negative commentary regarding the Biden family, noting that many people apply a “negative overlay” to the historical context of his presidency.
