Jill Biden Says She Won’t See a Woman President in Her Lifetime After Harris’ 2024 Defeat

Former first lady Dr. Jill Biden told host Kelly Ripa on the SiriusXM podcast “Let’s Talk Off Camera” that she does not expect to see a female president of the United States in her lifetime. At 75, Biden said she was “shocked” when Vice President Kamala Harris lost the 2024 presidential election to Donald Trump, recalling that she woke at 5 a.m. to feed her cat Willow and learned of the result.

Biden, who campaigned heavily for Harris and had expressed confidence that the Democratic ticket would break the glass ceiling, now believes a woman president may come only after her generation. Her comments sparked criticism from Democratic figures, with some describing the remarks as a “slap in the face” to female candidates aspiring to run in 2028.
