Jim Courier proposes tennis experiment after Jovic-Eala US Open match

Following a high-intensity US Open match between Iva Jovic and Alex Eala, former world No. 1 Jim Courier proposed an experimental exhibition match played without first serves. The suggestion arose after Jovic defeated Eala 7-5, 3-6, 7-5 in a contest lasting over three hours that featured 17 breaks of serve.

Analyzing the match for Tennis Channel alongside Lindsay Davenport, Courier noted that while both players could improve their serving, the lack of dominant serves led to spectacular, aggressive baseline rallies. He suggested that an exhibition format without the advantage of a first serve could showcase the players' exceptional movement and groundstroke quality.

Jovic's victory marks her first time reaching the fourth round at the US Open. Both athletes are currently ranked within the world's top twenty.
