Jim James and Jeff Tweedy Talk Grateful Dead Legacy in NPR's Days Between

NPR Music is running a nine‑day series called “Days Between” (Aug. 1‑9) that explores why the Grateful Dead continues to attract new listeners. The series features interviews with My Morning Jacket frontman Jim James and Wilco frontman Jeff Tweedy about their evolving relationship with the band’s music.

James says he first fell in love with the Dead after hearing the 1970 album American Beauty in his mid‑twenties, later sharing the stage with surviving member Bob Weir and recording a cover for the 2016 tribute album “Day of the Dead.” Tweedy likewise reflects on his long‑standing admiration and collaborations with Weir, noting how the Dead’s influence has shaped his own work.
