Jim Leonhard takes over as Buffalo Bills defensive coordinator

Jim Leonhard has transitioned from an undrafted NFL safety to the defensive coordinator for the Buffalo Bills. After a ten-year playing career with teams including the Bills, New York Jets, Baltimore Ravens, Denver Broncos, and Cleveland Browns, Leonhard has moved into a prominent coaching role.

Known by players as ‘the silent assassin,’ Leonhard is described as a tactical and observant leader who prefers assessing situations before providing direction. Edge rusher Bradley Chubb noted that Leonhard focuses on business and clear expectations rather than media attention.

Leonhard’s career path includes walking onto the University of Wisconsin football team, where he became a three-time All-American, and overcoming a lack of Division I scholarship offers due to his size.
