Jim Nantz discusses Tony Romo’s CBS departure
Jim Nantz has addressed the departure of his longtime broadcasting partner, Tony Romo, from CBS. Romo was released by the network following a July arrest for operating a vehicle while under the influence. While Nantz did not defend the decision to drive under the influence, he expressed optimism regarding Romo’s future in the industry, stating, “I think there will be plenty of opportunity for that because he’s got game.”
Romo and Nantz worked together at CBS for nine years. Following Romo's departure, CBS replaced him with former NFL player JJ Watt. Reports indicate Romo had approximately $72 million remaining on his contract, though it is believed the network paid out much of that sum prior to the announcement of their parting on October 2.
In a separate commentary, Tomi Lahren noted that Romo had previously offered her advice on managing public scrutiny, suggesting that most people are not as focused on online criticism as it may seem.
