Jimmie Åkesson addresses climate policy and religious leadership

Sweden Democrats leader Jimmie Åkesson addressed several key political issues during recent interviews with SVT and Sveriges Radio P3. Regarding climate change, Åkesson stated he is not personally concerned by recent extreme heat and fires in Europe, suggesting that such concerns are primarily held by the media elite and establishment. He argued that Sweden should focus on emission reductions that provide actual global benefits rather than imposing expensive fuel taxes that disproportionately affect citizens living outside major metropolitan areas.

On the topic of religion and governance, Åkesson stated that it is “completely okay” for a practicing Muslim to serve as Sweden’s Prime Minister. He emphasized that religious belief is a private matter in Sweden, though he drew a firm distinction between personal faith and political demands, stating he would not accept the implementation of Sharia laws in the country.

During the election campaign, Åkesson also expressed his party's ambition to challenge the Social Democrats for the position of Sweden’s largest political party, positioning the Sweden Democrats as a voice for the “working Swedish side.”
