Jičín hosts 36th annual Fairytale Town festival

The 36th edition of the 'Jičín – město pohádky' (Jičín – Fairytale Town) festival begins on September 9. This year's theme, 'Hájajá', pays tribute to the writer Václav Čtvrtek while exploring the connection between nature and mental well-being, specifically addressing stress and fear.

The festival program includes markets, creative workshops, a mask parade, and various musical performances. A central feature is the 'Šiška v háji' fairytale path, which guides visitors through thirteen stations designed to help participants navigate themes of fear and recovery. The town square will be transformed into a temporary grove using trees and natural materials.

Beyond its cultural offerings, the festival serves as a long-term economic model for the region. By leveraging the literary heritage of Václav Čtvrtek, the city has successfully transformed intangible cultural capital into a sustainable regional brand and identity that has persisted for over three decades.
