Jin Yong's transformation of Yin Zhiping in wuxia novels

In his wuxia novels, author Jin Yong transformed the historical figure Yin Zhiping from a respected person into a symbol of lust and disgrace. The character appears primarily in ‘The Legend of the Condor Heroes’ and ‘The Return of the Condor Heros’.

In ‘The Legend of the Condor Heroes’, Yin Zhiping is depicted as an intelligent, upright, and talented young Taoist priest with high expectations for his future leadership. However, his character arc takes a dark turn in ‘The Return of the Condor Heroes’ after he falls in love with the Little Dragon Maiden. Driven by desire, he commits a controversial act by violating her, an event considered one of the most painful and debated plot points in Jin Yong’s works.
