Jinaya Taylor to face trial for assisting boyfriend in fatal stabbing
Jinaya Taylor, 20, is set to face trial in the Newcastle District Court after pleading not guilty to being an accessory after the fact to manslaughter. She is accused of helping her boyfriend evade arrest following a fatal stabbing.
The incident occurred on January 9 last year in Gateshead during the 18th birthday party of Jacob Callaghan. Matthew Callaghan, 37, was stabbed three times in the heart and died in an ambulance.
Jacob Callaghan has pleaded guilty to manslaughter on the basis of excessive self-defence. He claimed to friends that he stabbed his father to protect Taylor after his father punched her in the head. Prosecutors previously dropped a murder charge against Jacob, unable to rule out that he believed his actions were necessary for self-defence or to protect his girlfriend.
