Jinchuan International resumes trading with 25% stock rise
Jinchuan International (2362.HK) resumed trading on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange on September 30, 2026, following an 18-month suspension. On its first day back, the company's stock rose 25%, closing at 0.795 HKD after an initial surge of over 83% in pre-market and early trading.
During the suspension period, the company experienced significant fundamental growth. In the first half of 2026, Jinchuan International reported revenue of $460 million, a 152% increase year-on-year, and attributable profits of $47.816 million, representing a 7.7-fold increase compared to the same period last year. This growth was driven by rising copper and cobalt prices and increased production, particularly from the Musonoi copper-cobalt mine in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, which accounted for approximately 45% of the company's total copper production in the first half of the year.
The company's copper reserves reached 1.154 million tons and cobalt reserves reached 237,000 tons by the end of 2025. Despite the stock's recovery, the company remains excluded from the Southbound Stock Connect program, meaning mainland Chinese investors can currently only sell their existing holdings but cannot buy new shares until the stock is re-added to the index.
