Jingyi Yang explores nomadic heritage through immersive textile art

Artist Jingyi Yang creates immersive textile installations that explore the cultural tensions between nomadic and sedentary lifestyles. Drawing inspiration from her roots in Baotou, Inner Mongolia, Yang uses the 'ovoo'—a sacred ritual mound representing the connection between heaven and earth—as a central metaphor for the shifting landscape between pastoral traditions and settled agricultural societies.

Her multidisciplinary practice integrates traditional motifs with cutting-edge technology and sustainable innovation. Yang utilizes a wide range of materials and techniques, including digital Jacquard weaving, knitting, laser cutting, and 3D printing. She also experiments with biomaterials such as algae, kombucha, and coffee to investigate themes of memory, ecology, and cultural identity.
