Jinju citizens rally for public institution relocation and innovation city completion

Jinju City and Gyeongsangnam-do officials, along with approximately 2,000 citizens, held a resolution rally at the Jinju Indoor Gymnasium to advocate for the completion of the Jinju Innovation City. The participants called for the relocation of a second wave of public institutions from the Seoul metropolitan area to Jinju, the retention of the Korea Land and Housing Corporation (LH) headquarters in its current location, and the establishment of an integrated headquarters for power generation public enterprises in the region.

Proponents argue that utilizing existing infrastructure, such as the Korea South-East Power facilities, could save over 300 billion won in construction costs and reduce building timelines by five years. The provincial government has identified 40 target agencies for relocation, including KOTRA and IBK Industrial Bank of Korea, and plans to increase advocacy efforts ahead of the government's expected announcement in late 2024.

Separately, the Jinju-Jeongchon to Sacheon Chukdong road construction project has officially passed its preliminary feasibility study. The 6.1km, four-lane bypass road, estimated to cost 271.8 billion won funded entirely by national budget, aims to alleviate traffic congestion on National Routes 3 and 33 and improve logistics for the growing aerospace industry in the western Gyeongnam region.
