JinkoSolar proposes name change as Tongwei clears antitrust hurdle
JinkoSolar Holding Co., Ltd. has proposed changing its English name to Jinko Holdings Limited. The move, which requires shareholder approval at an annual general meeting scheduled for October 21, 2026, aims to reflect the company’s expanding role as a strategic investment entity. While its subsidiary, Jinko Solar Co., Ltd., will continue to manage core solar and energy storage operations, the parent company intends to target high-growth sectors including artificial intelligence, advanced materials, commercial space, and quantum technology.
In a separate development within the Chinese photovoltaic industry, Tongwei has received antitrust clearance from China’s State Administration for Market Regulation for its planned acquisition of Qinghai Lihao Clean Energy. Tongwei has completed the necessary auditing and due diligence to acquire a 100% stake in the polysilicon producer. This acquisition removes a major regulatory hurdle for the transaction as Tongwei seeks to expand its footprint in the polysilicon market.
