Jinnah International Airport delays digital vaccination card rollout

Authorities in Karachi have extended the deadline for Umrah pilgrims to obtain digitally verified vaccination certificates. Originally set for September 14, the mandate has been pushed to September 25 to allow for better operational coordination.

The Jinnah International Airport administration requested the delay from Border Health Services, citing concerns that implementing the digital system without sufficient notice and multi-agency alignment could cause severe operational risks. The airport administration noted that only one dispensary is currently designated in Karachi for issuing these cards and emphasized the need for a passenger-friendly procedure finalized through stakeholder consultation.

The new system integrates vaccination records with the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) to ensure certificates are digitally verifiable. While the rollout is being delayed to ensure a smooth transition, Border Health Services clarified that the change only affects how vaccination status is certified and does not introduce new vaccination requirements. Karachi will serve as the pilot location for this integrated digital certification system before it is expanded to other international airports and border points across Pakistan.
