Jintang Undersea Tunnel completes underground construction phase

The Jintang Undersea Tunnel has reached a major milestone with the completion of its underground construction phase. As the world’s longest undersea high-speed rail tunnel, the project is designed to connect the economic hubs of Ningbo and Zhoushan beneath the East China Sea.

The tunnel aims to enhance regional integration by providing high-capacity transit for passengers and goods, thereby reducing logistics costs and travel times between the Ningbo port industry and the Zhoushan maritime sector. The engineering process utilized advanced tunnel boring machines (TBMs) to navigate complex seabed geology and seismic risks. The project includes a 10-kilometer undersea segment and various land-based sections connected to the existing high-speed rail network.
