Jio Platforms targets major share of India's $1.4 trillion digital economy

Jio Platforms, the digital and telecommunications unit of Reliance Industries, aims to capture a significant share of India’s projected $1.4 trillion digital economy by fiscal year 2030-31. Ahead of its upcoming initial public offering (IPO), Managing Director Akash Ambani outlined a growth strategy centered on mobile connectivity, home broadband, enterprise services, and international expansion.

Jio currently manages over 60 percent of India’s wireless data traffic. As of June 2026, the company reported 533.3 million customers, including 285 million 5G users, making it the largest 5G subscriber base outside of China. The company plans to drive revenue growth by offering more services—such as AI-powered voice features, integrated home broadband, and digital applications—rather than relying primarily on tariff increases.

Financial indicators show a strong performance, with an EBITDA of 76,225 crore rupees in fiscal year 2025-26 and an EBITDA margin of 53.3 percent in the first quarter of the current fiscal year. To support its infrastructure, Jio utilizes over 360,000 telecom towers and 26,800 MHz of spectrum.
