Jis to receive La Catrina award at Guadalajara International Book Fair

José Ignacio Solórzano Pérez, known professionally as Jis, has been named the recipient of the 2026 La Catrina award. The recognition, which honors a distinguished career in Latin American cartooning and graphic humor, will be presented during the 40th edition of the Guadalajara International Book Fair (FIL) on December 5.

Isabel López Pérez, rector of the Centro Universitario de Arte, Arquitectura y Diseño (CUAAD), announced the honor, noting that Jis has transformed the language of cartooning in Mexico by moving beyond purely political satire to explore introspection and social reflection.

Jis expressed surprise at the announcement, humorously noting that he had long grown accustomed to not receiving the award. He stated that the recognition serves as an ideal reinforcement as he returns to his roots in cartooning after exploring other creative forms following his departure from newspaper work in 2020.
