Jiuzhaigou, Sichuan Mudslide Forces Evacuation of Hundreds of Tourists

On the afternoon of 26 July, a sudden mudslide triggered by short‑term heavy rain struck the Jiuzhaigou Scenic Area in Sichuan Province, China. The flow of water and debris blocked key park roads, leaving a large number of visitors stranded on site.

Authorities activated a Level‑2 flood and geological‑disaster emergency response. Cross‑department rescue teams, including the Jiuzhaigou Management Bureau, local county officials, the Aba Dajiu Travel Group, fire services and emergency management units, were deployed to clear debris, secure the terrain and orderly evacuate tourists. By evening, the evacuation was proceeding safely with no reported injuries.

Following the incident, officials announced that the Arrow Bamboo Sea area and the entire Jiuzhaigou valley would be closed to visitors from 27 July, and a red flood warning was issued for several provinces in southern China.
