Lakers coach JJ Redick clarifies roster comments following LeBron James departure

Los Angeles Lakers head coach JJ Redick has addressed recent speculation regarding his comments on the team's roster construction. Following LeBron James' departure to the Philadelphia 76ers, Redick clarified that his praise for the current roster was not a slight against James, but rather an observation of the team's improved depth, shooting, and defensive capabilities around superstar Luka Doncic.

Redick highlighted that the new roster features multiple ball-handlers, including newcomers Collin Sexton and Quentin Grimes, alongside Austin Reaves. The team has also bolstered its interior defense with the addition of Walker Kessler.

Luka Doncic has also drawn attention during the preseason, with Redick praising his ‘fantastic shape’ and improved conditioning following an offseason focused on sprint work. Doncic expressed mutual respect for James, noting that he enjoyed their time as teammates and reached out to him following his exit from the franchise.
