JK Rowling criticized for posting under‑skirt photo of trans woman

Author JK Rowling shared a photograph on X on July 11 that showed trans activist Freda Wallace seated on a chair, her leg crossed and a short skirt with fish‑net stockings visible from a low angle that exposed part of her thigh. In the post Rowling claimed Wallace refused to debate her and posted the image to prove she held no grudge. The caption referenced a 2023 debate organized by the Institute of Economic Affairs on the question “Does trans ideology threaten liberal values?”

The post sparked widespread criticism on social media, with users condemning the invasive framing of the image and questioning why a similar photo of a cis‑gender woman would be acceptable. Commentators noted that the image was taken from below, effectively showing Wallace’s thigh, and highlighted concerns about harassment of trans individuals online.
