Júlio Casares sues São Paulo FC to overturn expulsion

Former São Paulo FC president Júlio Casares has filed a lawsuit against the club to overturn his expulsion. Casares alleges that his removal was the result of a “trama política” (political plot) and denies any reckless management of club finances.

Casares' expulsion followed a September decision by the club's Deliberative Council, which cited irregular management under Article 34 of the club's statutes. Internal investigations highlighted R$ 11 million in withdrawals during his tenure, with approximately R$ 6.95 million to R$ 7 million lacking proper documentation. Casares contends these funds were used for cash prize payments related to titles won and argues that technical accounting decisions were the responsibility of specialized departments rather than himself.

The legal action also seeks to validate his corporate card reporting and demands that the club provide evidence of any actual resource diversion. The club's leadership has faced scrutiny over other issues, including an investigation into the sale of VIP box tickets at the Morumbis stadium and the rejection of the 2025 accounts despite a reported R$ 56 million surplus.
