JMC identifies maintenance trends for Chilean pickup trucks

JMC, represented in Chile by Astara, has identified that the specific usage patterns of pickup trucks in Chile significantly impact their maintenance requirements and lifespan. According to the National Automotive Association of Chile (ANAC), over 36,000 new units have been sold in the country so far in 2026, highlighting the segment's popularity.

Diego Ortiz, Head of Aftersales at JMC Chile, noted that most workshop visits are preventable. Based on approximately 5,000 annual maintenance services, the company identified three primary areas of concern: diesel particulate filter (DPF) saturation, brake and suspension wear, and clutch or transmission failures.

Maintenance needs vary depending on whether the vehicle is used for urban driving or heavy-duty work. Vehicles used in mining or construction sites face higher loads, dust, and irregular terrain, requiring more frequent inspections. In contrast, urban use often involves short trips that may prevent the DPF from completing its regeneration cycle. Ortiz emphasized that mileage alone is not a definitive indicator of vehicle condition, as load, terrain, and driving habits play critical roles.
