Joaçaba implements programs for elderly digital safety and ageism awareness

In Joaçaba, Brazil, local authorities and community organizations are implementing initiatives to support the elderly through digital education and social awareness.

As part of the Digital Inclusion Course for the Elderly III, organized by Polo Inovale in partnership with the Joaçaba Social Assistance Secretariat and the Municipal Council for the Elderly, a lecture was held to address digital and patrimonial fraud. Led by lawyer Jéssica Romeiro Motta, the session aimed to help seniors identify fraudulent attempts, adopt preventive measures, and protect their financial assets in an increasingly digital environment.

Simultaneously, the Elderly Health Coordination held a community meeting focused on combating ageism. In collaboration with mental health professionals and social assistance teams, the event provided a space for seniors to discuss age-based discrimination and the stigmas associated with aging. The initiative encouraged participants to challenge limiting social perceptions and promote autonomy and social integration through shared experiences and interactive activities.
