Joachim Volz to run for Green Party in NRW state election

Gynecologist Joachim Volz has announced his intention to run for the North Rhine-Westphalia state parliament in 2027 as a candidate for the Green Party. This political move follows a legal dispute regarding his ability to perform abortions at his clinic.

Volz, a former member of the CDU, had previously sued the Evangelical Hospital Lippstadt after its merger with a Catholic provider resulted in a ban on performing abortions. The court ultimately ruled in favor of the hospital. Volz stated that his decision to enter politics is driven by the need to address the political complexities surrounding reproductive rights and women's rights in Germany.
