Joan Baldoví claims Compromís candidacy for Generalitat presidency

Joan Baldoví, the current syndic of Compromís in Les Corts, has stated his expectation to be the coalition's candidate for the presidency of the Generalitat in the upcoming regional elections. Baldoví described the official designation process as a mere “formalism,” arguing that the role of syndic traditionally leads to the candidacy. He also criticized the current head of the Consell, Juanfran Pérez Llorca, suggesting he lacks explicit support from his own environment.

In response, Nando Pastor, spokesperson for the People's Party (PP) parliamentary group in Les Corts, dismissed Baldoví's confidence as “naive.” Pastor argued that unlike PP candidates who are ratified by central leadership, Baldoví must still secure approval from a fragmented group of left-wing parties, including Podemos, Sumar, and Esquerra Republicana de Catalunya.

Additionally, Pastor demanded explanations from former president Ximo Puig regarding an investigation by the Valencian Anti-Fraud Agency. The investigation concerns an 80,000 euro subsidy granted to the UGT union during the pandemic for a confederal congress, which was reportedly issued despite contrary legal reports.
