Joan Yago wins National Prize for Dramatic Literature
Catalan playwright Joan Yago has been awarded the National Prize for Dramatic Literature for his work ‘La brama del cérvol (una experiència única en un marc incomparable)’. The award, granted by the Ministry of Culture, includes a prize of 30,000 euros.
The jury described the play, published by Editorial Comanegra, as a “surprising, risky, and deliberately delirious” text that engages with the present through an existential and political crisis. The work is noted for its sharp wit, sarcastic tone, and ability to explore societal fissures through dark humor.
Yago, 38, is a co-founder of the theater company La Calòrica, which he established in 2010. The company is recognized for its satirical and politically connected approach to theater, which has gained prominence both in Catalonia and across Spain.
