Joana Rosa enters Cabo Verde presidential race as first female candidate

Joana Rosa, the former Minister of Justice, has officially entered the presidential race in Cabo Verde, making her the first woman to run for the presidency in the country's history. Supported by the Movement for Democracy (MpD), Rosa aims to offer a presidency characterized by proximity to citizens, dialogue between powers, and the safeguarding of the Constitution and the rule of law.

During her candidacy presentation in Praia, Rosa emphasized that while her status as the first female candidate is a milestone, voters should primarily evaluate her based on competence and leadership capacity. She proposed acting as a bridge between institutions and civil society, and expressed a commitment to addressing international geopolitical instabilities and their local economic impacts, such as rising fuel costs. Her platform also includes creating a forum to debate issues facing the nation's youth.
