Joanna Howe brings abortion law campaign to Uralla

Professor Joanna Howe, a law academic from Adelaide University and anti-abortion campaigner, held a community event in Uralla as part of a regional tour. The tour aims to build support for a planned rally at the New South Wales Parliament later this month.

During her speech at the Uralla Uniting Church, Howe addressed New South Wales abortion legislation and the challenges of accessing services in regional areas. She specifically highlighted a bill currently before the NSW Legislative Council that seeks to prohibit abortions performed for the purpose of sex selection.

Howe argued that regional residents should have a significant voice in the direction of abortion policy. She referenced a 2023 Senate inquiry titled ‘Ending the postcode lottery: Addressing barriers to sexual, maternity and reproductive healthcare in Australia’, which examined the difficulties faced by people in rural and remote areas regarding access to termination care.
