FC Barcelona signs João Cancelo on permanent deal until 2029
FC Barcelona has officially announced the permanent signing of Portuguese defender João Cancelo on a three-year contract running until June 30, 2029. Cancelo joins the club as a free agent following the mutual termination of his contract with the Saudi Arabian side Al-Hilal.
This marks Cancelo’s third stint with the Catalan club, having previously played for Barcelona on two separate loan spells. During his previous time with the team, he contributed to winning both La Liga and the Spanish Super Cup. The versatile fullback, capable of playing on both the right and left sides, is expected to be a key asset for manager Hansi Flick.
In addition to the Cancelo deal, Barcelona has been active in the transfer market, recently securing the signing of Rodri and adding players like Anthony Gordon and Karim Adeyemi. The club’s recent financial trajectory shows a significant shift from previous years of crisis, with reported reductions in the wage bill and improved spending capacity in La Liga.
Alongside football transfers, the club also confirmed the signing of French basketball player Yoan Makoundou on a contract until 2028 to bolster their basketball division.
